When you go on a ladies retreat, there’s no telling what may happen. But one thing is for sure; you’ll learn something new. You’ll learn more about what it means to go through life as a Christian woman. You’ll learn more about your sisters in Christ. You may even learn something about yourself.
You may think you know everything about yourself, but the truth is that God knows you even better than you do. So when your heart is open to what He has to say, He may just reveal something that you’d never thought about before. Here are 3 surprising things you may discover about yourself at a ladies retreat:
Your relationship with God isn’t as strong as you’d like it to be.
We would all like to believe that we are completely in tune with God’s will, that we are living up to the standards of the Christian life, and that we have it all figured out. But for the vast majority of us, the reality is not so great. Even if you feel like your walk with Christ is thriving, there’s always room for improvement. Ladies retreats can show you areas you need to improve in and just how much you need to improve. We should always be seeking to know God more and more, and we should never settle for a shallow understanding of our Creator.
You haven’t been spending enough time with other people.
In this world, it’s all too easy to put yourself first. After all, life is hard, and you need to look out for yourself. But ‘looking out for yourself’ can quickly turn into isolating yourself from the rest of the world, or rather, cutting everyone else out of your life. When you go to a ladies retreat, you will interact with other women who may be guilty of the same thing. You will share your joys and maybe even your struggles with people who genuinely care, and they may even confide in you. Community is a wonderful gift from God; don’t deprive yourself of one of life’s greatest joys.
You’re actually really exhausted.
There comes a point in time where you’re so used to bearing all of life’s responsibilities that you learn to do it seamlessly, effortlessly, without a second thought. While life management skills are good to have, there is absolutely no excuse for never taking a break. We are human, and we need rest. We are in constant need of something new and refreshing to break us out of our ordinary, mundane routines and mindsets. Ladies retreats can be that ‘something.’ You may not realize it, but your soul is longing for something more than the tiring work of everyday life. Once you discover just how exhausted you are, you can ask God to send peace and rest back into your life. Jesus has said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
