Frisbee Water Race

This is a great frisbee water game for hot summer days!  Divide the players into two or more teams.  Each team will have a storage container at the starting line and one at the finish line roughly 25 feet away. Clear storage containers like these work best.

Fill the starting container to the top with water.  It’s okay if the water overflows!  Mark the container at the end about 1/4 to 1/2 of the way up depending on how long you want the game to go on and the skill level of your players.  Be sure all markings are equal to keep the game fair.

Once the game starts, one player at a time will fill their frisbee up with water and run it to the other container at the finish while trying not to spill any water while they run.  The team that fills up their container to the marked line wins!

While there are many types of frisbees, a deep style one like this provides the best game frisbee.

Kan Jam the Official Lawn Frisbee Game

Kan Jam Original Disc Toss Game - Kan Jam Rookie, PRO and To-Go Disc Golf Sets with Illuminate LED Frisbee Versions
  • KAN JAM, THE ULTIMATE TEAM GAME - Played similarly to cornhole or horseshoes, the object of this frisbee game is to toss the disc toward the goal...
  • FOUR PLAYER FRISBEE SLAM - Two teams of two with partners alternating between throwing and deflecting. Includes (2) Kan Jam goals, serving as the...
  • FOLDS FLAT ON-THE-GO - The disc golf basket compact design folds down flat and tucks away to take just about anywhere.

This game is awesome because it is very easy to set up and you can play it at camp, in your backyard, at the beach, or at the park with friends!

It also encourages teamwork and helps to make friends when setting up to encourage pickup games with other people.  There is an official KANJAM frisbee game set that you can purchase which includes everything or you can piece the main components together with cans or boxes you may have on hand.

To play 2 players per team, 2 cans, and 1 frisbee are required.  According to official regulations, Kan Jam cans should be placed 50 feet apart.  Depending on the age of your players, you may decide to move the cans closer.

Each can should be open at the top and have a slit in the side that a frisbee could pass through if a skilled (or lucky) successful throw is achieved.  One player will throw their frisbee at the can toward their teammate.  Kan Jam scoring is achieved by:

  • 1 point – the teammate slaps the frisbee striking the can but not entering it.
  • 2 points – the thrower tosses the frisbee striking the can but not entering it without their teammate touching it.
  • 3 points – the teammate slaps the frisbee into the can.
  • INSTANT WIN – the thrower throws the frisbee into the think slit on the side of the can.

The team that reaches 21 points in the least amount of time (or first if played at the same time) wins.

Frisbee Hula Hoop Toss

This is a wonderfully fun game for kids or youth.  Simply set up 1 or more hula hoops to throw frisbees through.  Depending on the size of your playing field you could have a hula hoop close for one point, a little further for 3 points, and even further for 5 points.

Give each player 5-10 turns to see how many points he or she can get with a 2-minute time limit.  This is great for gymnasiums or to add to your outdoor games.

If you already have hula hoops, you may be interested in these other hula hoop games.

Frisbee Basketball

Frisbee Basketball is an alternate version of the hula hoop-style game above.  Instead of hoops, you would set up 3-5 laundry baskets at various distances.

Each one will have a point assigned depending on the difficulty.  Give frisbee players 5-10 turns to see how many points they can get.  The player with the most points wins!

Frisbee HORSE

While we’re talking about Frisbee Basketball, you can’t forget about a basketball variant that everyone has ingrained in them since they were a young kid, HORSE.  This can be played with any number of players, but usually, 2-4 players work best.

When searching out games for kids, this one is easy because you only need one frisbee and whatever other resources you have on hand.

To play, establish a throwing order.  Player 1 will call out the shot he/she is attempting.  If Player 1 misses, the next player tries a new shot.  If Player 1 has a successful throw, then the next player will have to replicate the throw.

If they miss, then they get an “H” as a penalty.  If they also have a successful throw, then the next player will attempt it.  Each time a player misses the successful throw before them they get a letter as a penalty.

If they spell out H.O.R.S.E. then they are out of the game.  The last player standing wins!

Frisbee Trick Shots

Trick shots are all the rage!  They have one simple goal,  perform a seemingly impossible trick shot and catch it on video!  This is perfect for a small group of players because each person can contribute to thinking up an amazing frisbee trick shot, recording, and throwing.

Get creative here and don’t get discouraged if you miss your trick shot the first time.  Afterward, splice your recorded trick shots together and post the video on social media for your friends to enjoy!  Need some ideas?  Check out these amazing frisbee trick shots from Dude Perfect.

Flipping Frisbee

This is a super simple game that kids enjoy.  Two players stand facing each other at least 6ft apart.  The player holding the frisbee is “heads” (face side up) on the frisbee.

The player not holding the frisbee is “tails” (face side down) on the frisbee.  The player with the frisbee will toss it in a flipping motion into the air.

The player with the side that lands up will take off running to a predetermined location (safe zone).  The other player will chase and try to tag the runner before he/she reaches the safe zone.

Depending on the number of players you could add a point system where a point is achieved each time a player reaches the safe zone.  Can you think of a better way to easily burn off all the energy kids have?

Frisbee Tag

What game does every kid love to play?  Tag!  Grab a frisbee and offer this fun alternative known as frisbee tag.  The game rules are simple.  Divide the players into two teams.

You may find that using cheap colored bandanas helps differentiate the players.  One team will start as the “IT” team.  The team that is not “IT” will spread out and toss one or two frisbees back and forth while trying not to let the “IT” team tag their frisbee.  This frisbee game is also known as Frisbee Keep-Away.

While you’re at it.  Try these other tag games too!

Frisbee Tic-Tac-Toe

Here’s a modern twist on everyone’s favorite game, tic-tac-toe. This time, we will be using 9 hula hoops to make a 3×3 grid. Now paint or mark 5 Frisbees with “X” and another 5 Frisbees with “O”. To play, 2 players will receive their own set of Frisbee and will play it like tic tac toe.

Another way to play frisbee tic-tac-toe is to have 2 3-player teams.  Set the 3×3 tic-tac-toe grid about 20 feet away from the players.  Use painter’s tape or sidewalk chalk to create a starting line.

Each player will have one team frisbee.  One player at a time on each team will run their team’s frisbee and place it on the grid.  The player will run back and “tag” their next teammate in line.

The next teammate will run another frisbee to place it on the grid.  After all the frisbees are dropped, players will continue to run to the grid to move a frisbee and try to get 3-in-a-row to win the game.

Primary PE Lesson Ideas - Ultimate Frisbee - Tic, Tac, Toe

Superhero Frisbee Shield Throw

If your kids are like mine, they LOVE acting like superheroes and one of their favorites is Captain America.  Superhero frisbee shield throw is the ultimate game for kids to live out their fantasies as a real Avenger.

Grab used soda bottles, cans, or small orange plastic cones to use as targets.  Set them all on a table or in various locations.

Have the player see how many they can knock down in 1 minute.  It’s a great idea to get a few Captain America shield frisbees for this.  Your players will love it!

Frisbee Stacko!

This is a perfect game to challenge everyone’s balancing skills. Prepare a good number of Frisbees and have each player stack the Frisbees as high as they can.

This game works well with mini Frisbees or cheap bulk frisbees. You can allot a time for each player or a scoring system wherein for every 2 Frisbee added to the stack the player will get 5 points. The player with the most points wins the challenge.

Frisbee Bocce

Bocce is a very popular backyard game or game to be played on the beach.  You can adapt it to your needs with a frisbee for each player and a tennis ball.

If you’re only playing with 2 players, you should have three frisbees per player.  To start each round, throw the tennis ball out in front of all the players standing together.  Each person will take a turn throwing their frisbee as close to the tennis ball as possible.

After all the frisbees are thrown, the team with the closest frisbee to the ball gets 1 point.  If their frisbee is touching the tennis ball, they get 2 points.

The first team to achieve a predetermined amount of points wins.  9, 11, 15, and 21 are common points to play towards in Frisbee Bocce.  Some people call this game Frisbee Lawn Bowls.

Team Catch the Frisbee

Divide the players into two groups. One group will be assigned as the thrower while the other group is the receiver. The thrower group will throw each Frisbee up in the air or around the playing area and the job of the receiving team is to catch as many as they can.

Take note that they have to catch the Frisbees while in the air.  Frisbees that fall on the ground and are picked are not accepted. Once the first team is done, they will switch with the other team. Play a few rounds, and the team with the most Frisbees caught wins!

Ultimate Frisbee

You can’t have a list of the best games with frisbees without including the most popular game of catch there is, Ultimate Frisbee!  This can be played on a large outdoor field such as a soccer field.

The main goal of Ultimate Frisbee is to progress your frisbee up the field while passing it to teammates.  You cannot run while holding the frisbee.  Once a team progresses all the way down the field, they can throw their disc into a soccer goal or through goalposts to score a point.

The first team to score 15 points wins!  After the game ends and the winning team is crowned.  Choose the team’s most valuable player (MVP).  This person can carry the title of “Ultimate Player” for the rest of the day!

You can create your own goalposts to throw through using PVC pipes and duct tape from a local hardware store if needed.

Frisbee Throwing Race

This is a simple game of frisbee perfect for kids.  You will need teams of two and possibly a person with an official counter and stopwatch. Frisbee throwing players should stand facing each other 30 feet (10 yards) apart.

You can use the dividing lines on a football field or create your own with sidewalk chalk to serve as the standing lines.  On “GO”, players will race to see who can complete 20 successful passes in the least amount of time.  The fastest team wins!

Frisbee Bowling

No need to go to the bowling alley for a good round of bowling, thanks to this fun game with Frisbees! Just grab some of your frisbees, cheap bowling pins or plastic orange cones to get started.

If you can’t find anything you can even use empty water bottles! Place the water bottles in a position similar to bowling pins and have each player throw the Frisbees to knock them all down.

How to Throw a Frisbee

While there are many throwing styles of throwing a frisbee you should use these games to test out different styles and practice your throwing skills.

How to Throw a Frisbee for Beginners

How do you prefer to throw a frisbee?  I prefer to throw sidearm or forehanded to cover long distances and to throw backhanded for shorter range throws.

DIY Frisbee Craft

How do you make a frisbee?  Did you know that you can make your own Frisbee with paper plates? The procedure is as follows: Cut the inner part of 2 paper plates leaving around 2 inches from the sides.

Now glue these 2 together, facing inwards, and leave to dry. Once dry, decorate with colored pencils and it’s time to play!  You can also follow the simple steps in the frisbee creation video below.

This can serve as a fun frisbee creation craft for small group activities.  You can then take them outside to see who can make the furthest flying homemade frisbee.

The Best Frisbee Game Apps

If you’re like me and love frisbee games so much that you want to play them all the time, you may even consider these top frisbee apps to play in your spare time.  These are a few of my favorites and can be found on both Apple and Android!

  • Frisbee Forever 2 – A beautifully created set of disc golf courses that you can dive and glide your discs through.  Levels can be quite challenging!
  • Frisbee Fever – This app is a cute take on Ultimate Frisbee.  You throw your disc from player to player while avoiding the opposite team.

  • Disk Golf Rival – A visually stimulating multiplayer game of disc golf that you can play with friends online.
